HI,
As I said on last post, Parenting by Connection, a program of Hand in hand organization, changed my life.
So, I decided to deep myself on it and now I am half way into become an Instructor in Parenting by Connection and I am loving it very very much!
I am learning a lot more about the use of the listening tools and practicing it on my daycare. The results are fantastic!
After the kids relieve their feelings through crying (staylistening ) or laughing (playlistening) they are more able to cooperate with one another, they are happier and light!
The parents are supportive of this approach. I am always sharing article, newsletters and stories with them.
If you want to know more about it go to handinhandparenting.org or the blog superprotectivefactor.com
If you want your child to develop her social skills as well her emotions skills, this may be the right place to be.
I have openings now, so give a call or email me for more information.
Hope to meet you soon!
Gabi Mendoza

Parenting by connection
During the last 6 weeks I lived a life changing parenting experience!
I did the Building Emotional Understanding course by hand in hand parenting.
Now I am finally parenting the way my heart believe to be right, not the way people around me, or the world, tell me to do!
Well, as a caregiver, I am experiencing a lot of transformation with my son and the other kids.
I learned new ways of seting limits and, more important, LISTENING for the kids.
I learned how to reconize there flags of "Iam not happy" "Iam disconect" "My brain is not organized enough to follow your instruction..." and I learned tools to know what to do at those moments.
This is a never -ending- learning experience, and Iam very excited to keep learning and listening!
I copyed from there website the hand in hand approach, so may be easier to understand what Iam talking about!
Please, check out there website (www.handinhandparenting.org) to read more about it as well as, articles about every parenting chalenge we can think about!
Hand in hand parenting approach
Hand in Hand Parenting works with parents of young children providing resources, training, and lots of support. For over 20 years, our Parenting by Connection approach has given parents practical tools to resolve universal family challenges. Unlike other parenting methods, which rely on systems of rewards and punishment, our philosophy is centered on children's strong, innate desire to love and be loved. Ourfresh and effective framework is consistent with the latest research and results in long-term family success.
Parenting by Connection foundations:
- When children feel connected, they learn readily, love easily, and become caring leaders among their peers. A healthy parent-child connection enables a child to fully access his intelligence and ability.
- When parents feel connected with their children and with other parents, they have greater success at solving problems at the heart of family and community life. Parenting becomes more fun, and more rewarding.
- When children’s behavior goes “off track,” they are asking for closeness, connection and understanding. Parents can use the tools of Special Time, Playlistening, Setting Limits or Staylistening to rebuild the connection with their children. The child offloads stress, reconnects, and can then make thoughtful decisions and learn from his experience.
- When emotional stress sends parents' behavior "off track," they need the support of a listener who appreciates how much they care and how hard they try. Parents need th e safety to offload feelings that interfere with their ability to guide their children with love and sensible limits, kindly held.

How it started
When I came back to California in 2009 I became pregnant then I decided to watch kids.
After my son was born I asked the parents to keep watching their kids, but in my place. That worked really well!
I could be with my son, while watching other kids, and when their parents get home their house was clean and nice, while mine wasn't... Part of the job...!
My son was growing, I was getting ready to work more. Then came the question: - Get a regular job or get more kids?? Open a daycare? Go official?
So I researched and saw that We don`t have in Oakland day cares that speak the Portuguese language.
That`s it! Let`s do it!
I started to meet more and more Brazilian families and spread my ideas.
What about the non Brazilian kids?? They are learning Portuguese!!!!
I speak both languages (better than I write it...) according to the need of the child.
So that`s the idea: a bilingual space where your child will have the opportunity to learn Portuguese while having fun, playing with other kids, listening to good brazilian music, having story time with Brazil books, etc.
Come check it out!
